It has been a very long time since I listened to them, so I went on You Tube and I looked for the official video, which I enjoy a lot.
Then I reminded that I liked also some of their other songs, so I browsed the Internet page to see the suggestion on the right part and I came across So Far Away, which I already knew but whose video was unknown to me.
The two songs are very different: the first one seems more powerul and Metal, while the second one is much more melodic and tended towards Rock.
Keeping on watching, I was overpowered by emotions.
Maybe not all of you knows who this song is dedicated to. The painful lyrics which recounts a great loss was written in memory of the drummer of the band, James Owen Sullivan (stage name "The Rev") who tragically died at the age of 28.
The video is very touching, especially the part in which old photos of the band are shown, which have, as protagonist, their dear friend.
The music stops for a while, as if all of them are praying, and then an acoustic guitar starts to play, followed by the snare drum and then by the electric guitar and the bass.
It's like the instruments tell the story of their pain, which suddenly is speechless: it all begins with silence and tears, replaced by a vivid feeling of grief, unbearable and heavy.
It's the guitar solo, the funeral march to remember who was (and is) still considered a brother from all of them.
And the song continues, powerful than before, with the scream of M. Shadows:
<<I love you
You were ready
The pain is strongand urges rise
But I’ll see you
When He lets me
Your pain is gone, your hands untied>>
You were ready
The pain is strongand urges rise
But I’ll see you
When He lets me
Your pain is gone, your hands untied>>
Closing the song, the chorus: <<So far away, and I need you to know/so far away, and I need you to, need you to know>>.
I leave you this quote:
"Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain"
Yours, Silvia
