Finally I have found the time to stop my daily routine to write my "serious" post (I'm really sorry for the fact that you had to wait for so long T.T)
As I said some time ago, we are going to talk about films: the one I have chosen is not my favourite one, but everytime I watch it, it makes me think and this means that we are in front of a good film.
The title is Big Fish: the director is Tim Burton, the actors are Ewan Mc Gregor, Albert Finney, Billy Grudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter and many others.
A romantic scene (Ewan Mc Gregor)
I don't want to summarize the plot, because I could write some spoilers and it could be a problem, because the film is basically based on the so called "coup de théatre". Instead, There are some themes I would like to highlight, as the relationship between father and son, magic and real/unreal events.
The two main characters have different point of views, which they use for almost every decision. their behaviours are opposite and in consequence their ideals. They often quarrel but the viewers understand soon that they love each other.
A scene from the film (Billy Crudup and Albert Finney)
The fight are problems which appear in lots of families and I think that the purpose, in this case, is to show that they can be solved and they are useful for our development as individuals.
The theme I love the most is magic and the connection between real and unreal. All the film is a story, there're many stories recounted by different narrators: the marvellous element which stands behind every fact is the surprise.
The witch (Helena Bonham Carter)
Even at the end of the film, I'm sure you'll sit in front of the screen asking yourself: "So, life is just an interpretation, a fantasy, or, maybe, there're actual events which you can show to others and not be misunderstood? Does the director choose to represent grotesque scenes on purpose, trying to mock us or not?"
I think that this film is worth-watching, especially if you love losing yourself in a labyrinth of emotions and nonsense in a dark and cloudy night.
Enjoy your watching: I'll leave here a quotes from the film :)
Yours, Silvia
